ITT Network Systems and Services
The Product
A high specification, Category 5 FTP structured cabling system designed for use
in computer LAN networks, ISCS is used by many of the worlds major banks,
corporations and organisations. ITT Network Systems and Services is part of the
international defence and technology group, ITT Cannon.
Brief to Project Video
To produce a 15 minute sales and promotional video that would position the
product against its competition, answer many technical and cost questions and
pre-qualify sales leads, thus increasing efficiency of sales representatives and
reducing costs of expensive test laboratory demonstrations. Initially, programme
would be required in English, French & German.
Target audience
Senior technical and financial staff of potential customers around Europe.
The challenge
From highly technical research and evaluation papers, write and produce a
programme that is accurate, interesting and informative to a widely diverse
target group, without being too simple for one group or too complex for the
other.
Shooting had to be organised in several European locations; the script, once
approved, had to be translated and voiced over in French and German; user
interviews filmed in English, French and German had to be translated and
subtitled as appropriate for different language versions. Graphic animation
sequences were designed and produced. VHS copies in all three languages to be
supplied.
The result
ITT were highly delighted with the end result, to the extent that after taking
delivery of initial copies, they commissioned Project Video to produce a CD-ROM
containing all three versions, with appropriate software to enable each
recipient to select and view the language version of their choice. Initial order
of 3000 CD's supplied.
ITT are considering re-voicing in Dutch, as well as an American version to
reflect technical, marketing and customer differences there.
"...thank you for your time and expertise in the production of the
video. I hope that your sleepless nights to meet the tight schedule have been
worth it! The result has certainly been acclaimed here."

Graduate Fashion Week
The Product
Graduate Fashion Week is an annual fashion event based in London providing
all Universities with the opportunity of exhibiting the country's developing
young design talents.
Brief to Project Video
To provide facilities to record all shows live on a multi-camera basis from
three
locations throughout the week. To provide copies on VHS cassette for
availability immediately after shows. To be prepared to record up to six shows
in a day. To co-ordinate with all Universities as to editing, titling and
quantity of VHS copies after the event.
Target audience
Students and leading fashion design houses.
The challenge
There were several challenges to overcome on this project:
A complex technical equipment rig where it would be possible to record in
three
separate venues from the same base throughout the week.
To arrange reliable and professional crews who could cope with the demands and
pressures of continual live recordings throughout the five-day period.
To record each show in a consistent style that illustrates each individual
design clearly in both close-up and wide-shot camera angles, without a
rehearsal.
To have all master tapes titled, edited, duplicated and despatched where
necessary within ten working days after the event.
The result
"I am writing on request from the course leaders to express our
heartfelt thanks for the excellent service you provided this year. Despite June
being the second wettest on record this century, we have heard nothing but
praise for the excellent camera work and extremely prompt service."
Natalie Wilkins - Event organiser Graduate Fashion Week
"The video was fabulous, it provided us with the ideal balance of
distance, group and close-up collection of information we have sought but rarely
obtained over the years that we have participated in the London event. I know we
are not the only University to hold the same sentiments and I will be proposing
to the organisers that we retain you for the event next year."
Douglas MacLennan - Head of Fashion, University of
Northumbria. ( top )
Pinacl Communications
The Product
Designed to be installed in newly built homes, Connect Home is a cabling system
that allows the customer to have universal connectors throughout the house for
television, PC's, printers, hi-fi, telephones and security cameras amongst
others.
Brief to Project Video
To produce a short sales film illustration and explaining the benefits of the
product. The product is presented to the customer by site sales staff, who are
independent of the Connect Home sales team and therefore might not be fully
aware of all the system advantages. The film had to provide a consistent
message, ensuring that the product features and benefits are explained clearly
and without misinterpretation. The film needed to be completed as soon as
possible.
Target audience
New home buyers, who would watch the film in conjunction with viewing a property
at new building development sites across the country.
The challenge
The most difficult aspect was to complete the film as quickly as possible while
maintaining high production values. We estimated that we would need three weeks
from beginning to completion. The product had to be researched, script written
and approved, location checked, actors crews and transport booked, all within a
week. The "shooting" script had to be calculated, shoot dates co-ordinated
and editing dates scheduled.
Graphic animation and a new logo animation with music string were designed and
produced. The off-line edit (the rough cut) to be presented to the client for
approval and then the on-line (final) edit completed.
Two hundred and fifty VHS copies needed to be duplicated, including cassette labeling
and case inlay insertion.
The result
During the third week the client requested a copy of the production four days
prior to the original completion date. We obliged, still keeping exactly to
budget.
The client feedback was extremely positive, with individual site developers
being invited by Pinacl Communications to have "personalised" versions
of the programme produced. ( top )
